Dunas de Corralejo Nature Reserve

Declared a biosphere reserve in 2002, this dune system is one of the most extensive across the island of Fuerteventura, with dunes that can reach as high as 50 metres.

Only 5 minutes by car from the centre of Corralejo the fine golden sands and crystalline water of the Dunas de Corralejo Nature Reserve await. Its exceptional and tranquil landscape, spreading over 2,600 acres, makes this place an attractive tourist destination “par excellence”.

El Dormidero, los Martos, El Pozo and Alzada are just some of beaches on this Reserve that stand out for their crystalline, turquoise blue water. These beaches have become an important area for those who love water sports, since the conditions to practise these activities are outstanding.

The most characteristic feature of this Nature Park is its almost 8 kilometres long coastline of organic origin. Dunes created by the breaking down and pulverisation of mollusc shells and other marine creatures.

The Malpais is an area found in the Corralejo Dunes, an extension where the land is covered by volcanic rock.
